I've pushed the refactoring changes I've made over the past couple of weeks. I broke a lot of things and think I have most of them fixed. At least, account signup is working again (last I checked). The proportional fonts are the first obvious change. Those should also help in resizing the content from the browser.
The database has been changed from MyISAM to innodb so I can get transactions. If any part of a multi-insert query fails now, it will all rollback and not leave a mess in the database.
Getting a list of discussions by a chosen tag is partially implemented. The list that's returned doesn't respect the tag you chose, but that won't be hard to fix later.
Unfortunately, tags got corrupted in all the changes and I had to delete current tags and associations.
Now, I have to get started on an iPhone app. I'm going to familiarize myself with that environment by writing an app my vet suggested. Something to keep track of how many calories my cats are consuming. I'm going to take it a little further and write an app that track vet visits, vaccinations, notes, pictures, feeding habits/calorie intake calculated by the calories in each brand of food (the vet has a complete list). It'll be extensive... that way I can get exposure to lots of areas of IOS development for my upcoming project at work. We'll be making a mobile version of our UI and I have been put in charge of architecting it. That includes a Java-based services back-end. So, I'll be learning Java too.
I'm excited to get my new purebred kittens Friday morning. I took that day and Monday off work so I could be home to hang out with them. I have a room blocked off where they will stay and gradually be exposed to my two current cats. After a week, assuming all goes well, they'll get to come out and join the family properly. I may take them by work to show off and get the girls all excited.
At 1pm, that same day, I have a lunch date with Amra. She grew up in Bosnia during communism and lived there during the war. She speaks english very well, but still has a cute accent. She's already got a green card (she used to work for an immigration attorney), though I suggested she just tell everyone she's Mexican and nobody would care if she were legal or not. She's currently in the middle of a divorce. She has three cats of her own and had an exotic tortoise that her husband got irritated with and turned loose and now it can't be found. She met him while working at Haliburton in Iraq. They got married and came back to the states. A fateful trip to Las Vegas recently, showed him to be unfaithful. Then he demanded a divorce. I'm not sure how I fit in to all of that, from her perspective. But it's sure to be an adventure. Maybe something to write about.
